Torch Run Recap

Celebrate our 25th Anniversary with Us!

The year 2022 marked the 25th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics in Northern California. A dedicated group of law enforcement officers, along with the support of Special Olympics staff, brought the Torch Run to life in Northern California in 1997. From its humble beginnings the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Northern California has grown into an integral part of Special Olympics; each year hundreds of law enforcement personnel participate. To date LETR Northern California has raised over 20 million dollars to support the athletes of Special Olympics.

Law enforcement personnel from around Northern California spend countless volunteer hours each year raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics through events such as Tip-A-Cops, Cop on a Rooftop, Police in Pursuit, Bike the Bridges and of course the Torch Run as “Guardians of the Flame”.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, almost 110,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe.
