Special Olympics Northern California hosted a free Health Fair for people with intellectual disabilities at Samuel Merritt University in April 2023.
Hundreds of healthcare professionals and students volunteered to provide free screenings for people with ID and their families. More than 80 participants received 270+ screenings in different health areas: Opening Eyes, Fit Feet, Special Smiles, FUNfitness, Health Promotion and Strong Minds.
The Special Olympics NorCal Healthy Athletes Program is dedicated to supporting the overall health and well-being of people with ID, both on and off the field. Along with providing free screenings and resources, Healthy Athletes also provides hands-on experience for medical professionals and students to interact with the ID community. This helps to break down some barriers, increase understanding and create more inclusive healthcare experiences for people of all abilities.
