Torch run Schedule
There are a total of 10 torches criss-crossing Northern California, merging into one torch on June 25 which will be used to light the Special Olympics Caldron in Aggie Stadium signaling the opening of the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games. WHEN: Redding/Shasta County
Monday,June 14 – The Flame of Hope™ starts at Redding for an 18-mile run to Cottonwood.
Tuesday, June 15 - The torch begins in Cottonwood and continues its journey 46 miles to Red Bluff.
Wednesday, June 16 – The torch begins in Tehama County and finishes the day 28.4 miles later in Glen County.
Thursday, June 17 – The Redding Route continues from Southern Glenn County for 34 miles, stopping in South Colusa County.
Fresno –Tulare-Madera County
Wednesday, June 16 – The Flame of Hope™ begins in Tulare and continues its journey through Visalia to Kingsbury.
Thursday, June 17 –The torch starts the day in Kingsburg before heading through Selma and Fresno and ending the day in Madera.
Friday, June 18 – The torch begins in Madera and heads northwest to Chowchilla.
Monterey-Santa Cruz County
Thursday, June 17 - The Flame of Hope™ starts at King City and travels 61 miles northwest to Marina.
Friday, June 18 – The torch starts the day in Watsonville before heading through Capitola and Santa Cruz and ending the day in Scotts Valley.
Friday, June 18 – Another torch leaves Hollister, travels through Gilroy and makes its way to Morgan Hill, where it rests for the weekend.
Santa Clara County-West
Monday, June 21 – The torch departs Cupertino and makes its way to Milpitas. The westbound torch meets the Northbound torch in San Jose for a celebration at 12:15 pm Circle of Palms then continues to Milpitas..
Santa Clara County-North
Monday, June 21 – Another torch starts through San Jose and joins the west bound torch and continues to Santa Clara until it reaches Sunnyvale, mountain view, los altos and rests in palo alto.
San Mateo County
Tuesday, June 22 – The torch starts from Menlo Park and is run north on El Camino Real to Daly City.
Napa County
Wednesday, June 23 – The Flame of Hope™ starts its day at 6am in Calistoga before traveling through St. Helena, Rutherford, Yountville, briefly stopping for a photo op at the Grape Crusher statue at 1 pm. It continues on to its endpoint at American Canyon around 2pm. (This route is about 37 miles.)
Sonoma County
Monday, June 21 – The torch leaves for its 35-mile trip from Cloverdale at 9am and heads on Geyser Road through Windsor before stopping at the Sonoma County Complex in Santa Rosa at 2:30 pm.
Tuesday, June 22 – At 7am, the torch leaves Santa Rosa and makes its way through Rohnert Park and then Petaluma where it stops at the Veteran Center at Petaluma Blvd.
Marin County
Monday, June 21 – The torch leaves at 8 am from Novato and travels to Corte Madera.
Tuesday, June 22 – The torch leaves again at 8 am and travels from Novato through San Rafael to Sausalito.
Alameda County/East Bay
Tuesday, June 22 – The torch starts its 27 mile leg at 6:30 am in Newark before traveling to Fremont, Union City, Hayward, and briefly stopping in Castro Valley at 11:15 am. It starts up again at 11:30am and travels to San Leandro BART, where it takes a brief BART ride to Oakland before landing in Jack London Square.
Wednesday, June 23 – The Flame of Hope™ leaves Oakland, traveling 25 miles north along the San Pablo Avenue corridor to Emeryville, Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Richmond, Pinole, stopping briefly in Hercules at the Marina. The torch starts up again later in the day at the Martinez Waterfront, where Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office takes it via boat to Benicia.
Solano County
Thursday, June 24 – The torch begins its 33 mile leg at Benicia and travels via boat to the Suisun Marina where it is picked up and run by Fairfield PD and Vacaville PD, then by the Travis Air Force Military Police, stopping in Dixon.
Tracy-San Joaquin County/Contra Costa County
Monday, June 21 – The torch starts in Tracy and winds its way through the Altamount Pass and ends its day in Livermore.
Tuesday, June 22 – The torch begins in Livermore to East Bay Regional Parks personnel who take it by helicopter at Shadow Cliffs. Then it proceeds to Dublin and San Ramon and continues its journey until arriving in Danville.
Wednesday, June 23 - The torch leaves Danville and makes its way through Walnut Creek and Concord before merging with the Alameda Torch in Martinez.
Placer-Sacramento-Yolo County
Friday, June 25 – The Flame of Hope™ starts its’ final journey at Beals Point in Placer County to Sacramento State University before continuing to the Capitol Steps for a press conference at 10:30 a.m. Following the press conference, the Torch will continue through West Sacramento before proceeding through Woodlands and to the Summer Games at University of California, Davis.
Opening Ceremonies will be from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Aggie Stadium. Athletes and their coaches will be escorted by a police motorcade and welcomed into Aggie Stadium by the "Wall of Honor" consisting of Law Enforcement personnel from all over Northern California. Law Enforcement personnel will be joined by several Special Olympics athletes and together they will light the Special Olympics caldron to officially open the Games. Competition is scheduled to continue from 8 am-4pm on Saturday and 9 am-2 pm on Sunday. Please see schedule of events at www.ReachfortheGold.org
Special Olympics Northern California is a free year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
