About the Summer Games

In 1995, the University of California at Berkeley hosted the first Special Olympics Summer Games in Northern California. After two years, the Games were relocated to Stockton while the aquatics, sports complex and Haas Pavilion were renovated. Special Olympics returned to UC Berkeley from 2006 until 2008.

In 2010, the Summer Games will take place at UC Davis for the second consecutive year. UC Davis is, a 5,300-acre campus that boasts a student enrollment of 30,000-plus and is home to four colleges and five professional schools. It is also home to 800 student-athletes who participate in 26 varsity sports. UC Davis is a Division I school, a designation for the toughest level of collegiate competition.

More than 700 athletes will compete and live on campus at UC Davis during the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games June 25-27. They will participate in four Olympic-style sports during the Summer Games, including aquatics, bocce, tennis and track & field. Northern California is one of 52 Special Olympic programs that provides a Summer Games competition for its athletes.
