Every two years, thousands of
Special Olympics athletes from around the world come together
to showcase their athletic skills and celebrate the spirit of
Special Olympics.
Alternating between Summer and Winter Games, the Special Olympics
World Games is a world-class sporting event featuring intense
competition and inspiring performances by the great athletes
of Special Olympics
The 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games will take place
in Boise Idaho, February 6th - 13th, 2009. Approximately 3000
athletes from around the World will be attending. Special Olympics
Northern California is proud that the following athletes will
be representing Special Olympics Northern California at these
exciting games!

The athletes selected participated in one of three Regional
Competitions and advanced to the Special Olympics Northern California
Winter Games Championships. Athletes who won a gold medal at
the Championships, who submitted a World Games application, were
eligible to enter the random draw for participation in the Special
Olympics World Games.
The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games was held in Shanghai, People's
Republic of China 2-11 October 2007.
The event marked the first time the World Summer Games was
held in Asia , and only the second time they have beenheld outside
the United States . In addition to some 7,000 athletes, the 2007
World Summer Games drew 40,000 volunteers, 3,500 event officials
and thousands of families, volunteers, spectators and journalists
