How to Become a Special Olympics Athlete

It's easy to become a Special Olympics athlete! The only requirement is the completion of our "Application for Participation in Special Olympics" form, which requires the signature of a licensed medical practitioner. To download the form in English, click here.  To download the form in Spanish, click here. Completed applications should be returned to: Donna Romero, Special Olympics, 3480 Buskirk Ave., #340, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 or faxed to 925-944-8803. If you have any questions, please call 925-944-8801 ext. 215. Our athletes do not need any experience to participate and all skill levels are welcome. Special Olympics athletes or their families pay no fee to participate in any of our programs.

Special Olympics is so much more than a year round sports training and competition program, it is training for life. The skills athletes learn and develop through their participation in Special Olympics affects their every day lives, whether that be at home, in the classroom or in the workplace. Special Olympics is founded on the belief that individuals with developmental disabilities can, with support, encouragement, and training, learn and enjoy participating in individual and team sports.

Currently in Northern California we provide year round sports training and competition opportunities in approximately 19 different Olympic type sports to over 13,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities.
