Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Law Enforcement Torch Run kicked off on June 1, 2007 at the State Capitol Building at 10:00am. Throughout the week of June 4th the "Flame of Hope" traveled hundreds of miles throughout 11 counties arriving at Berkeley on Friday, June 8th for the opening of the Summer Games. Every Officer running the torch earned the right to be a "Guardian of the Flame" by raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

WHEN:

Friday, June 1 - Placer County led the way to the State Capitol where they relayed the torch to Sacramento County for the official kick-off at the State Capitol at 10:00am; Torch #1 proceeded through Sacramento to Yolo County

Monday, June 4 - Torch #1 continued through Yolo County then relayed to Solano County and Torch # 2 started the southern route in Santa Cruz County; Torch # 3 started the northern Leg in Sonoma County.

Tuesday, June 5 - Torch # 1 continued in Solano County and got passed to Contra Costa County; Torch # 2 continued in Santa Cruz and got passed to Santa Clara County; Torch #3 continued in Sonoma County and was passed to Marin County

Wednesday, June 6 - Torch # 1 continued throughout Contra Costa County; Torch #2 continued throughout Santa Clara and was passed to San Mateo County; Torch #3 extinguished with San Francisco pass.

Thursday, June 7 - Torch #1 Southern Alameda County; Torch # 2 San Francisco County handed off to Alameda County Sheriff in the bay at Treasure Island; once hand off occurred Torch # 2 was combined with Torch # 1 for final leg to Berkeley.

FINAL LEG

Friday, June 8 - Torch #1 Final Leg to Summer Games at University of California Berkeley

2:30 pm - The ACSO Marine Patrol Unit (MPU) and accompanying vessels departed from Jack London Square and met the Torch Runners from Emeryville PD at the Emeryville marina.

2:50 pm - The ACSO MPU and all accompanying vessels departed from the Emeryville Marina and headed to the Berkeley Marina.

3:50 pm - The ACSO MPU arrived at the Berkeley Marina with the Torch; followed by a VIP Welcome.

4:30 pm - The Motorcade departed from the Berkeley Marina. It took approximately 50 minutes to complete the 3.2 mile course up University Avenue.

5:30 pm - The Motorcade ended at the Sproul Plaza located at the California State University of Berkeley where Law Enforcement Personnel joined the Special Olympics athletes for a bar-b-que dinner.

6:30 pm - Law Enforcement Volunteers left for the Haas Pavilion to prepare the wall of Honor for the athlete's arrival to Opening Ceremonies and the entry of the "Flame of Hope".

9:30 pm - "Flame of Hope" entered Opening Ceremonies to light the Torch that opened open the Summer Games.
