Teresa Mello, Humboldt County

Teresa has been an outstanding volunteer for Special Olympics Northern California in Humboldt County since 1968. In 1971 her son Kevin was born with special needs. When Kevin turned 7, she returned to Special Olympics along with her own athlete. In addition to being the Head Coach of the bowling team, Teresa also coaches swimming, basketball and bocce. She has also assisted in soccer, track and field, and our softball teams. Teresa is always there to drive the van, chaperone, organize the parties, transport athletes and volunteers to practices and most importantly, makes sure that all of our athletes are having fun and are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. She is our historian, cheerleader, counselor and all around go-to person whenever we need anything done. Teresa’s passion for Special Olympics and her leadership skills kept our organization going during the eight years we were without an Area Director.
