Special Olympics Northern California school programs provide a unique opportunity for Special Education students to participate in sports training and competition within the school environment. Our programs also offer support and volunteer opportunities to the entire student population, promoting community and good health school-wide.

Our School Partnership Program is a remarkable integration of classroom activities and Special Olympics-style sports. Student athletes will learn the basics of soccer, basketball, and track, join teams and participate in competitive tournaments.

Although only 10 percent of young adults with intellectual disabilities are employed, 52 percent of Special Olympics athletes have jobs. We are immensely proud of the role our Schools Partnership Program plays in those tangible examples of success.

The Schools Partnership Program is completely free to all participants. Equipment, uniforms, training guides and curriculum — we provide it all!

If you would like to lend your support to our Schools Partnership Program, please see the  Support Our Schools  page. We can’t provide our valuable programs without you!

School-Based Programs

Special Olympics School-Based Programs are fantastic educational tools that support our community teachers. We will provide the rules, guidance, and awards structure that makes our community sports program so successful. Educators, in turn, run the show. It’s a remarkable integration of physical activity and classroom skills.

Our School-Based Programs have a positive impact on the entire student population. But they are entirely voluntary! So we need your help. Become a Schools Program teacher today, contact our Schools Program Director.
